Creativity is all about finding new ways of solving problems and approaching situations. 💪
This isn’t a skill restricted to artists, musicians, writers, or “right-brained” thinkers; it is a useful skill for people from all walks of life.
If you’ve ever wanted to boost your creativity, these tips can help.
But first,
What is Creativity?
This is the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness.
So In this article I discuss 7 tips to Boost your Creativity🌿
1. Try the Six Hats Technique
The “six hats” technique involves looking at a problem from six differing perspectives.4 By doing this, you can produce more ideas than you might have had you only looked at the situation from one or two points of view.
- Black hat: Use a negative perspective. Which elements of the solution won’t work?
- Blue hat: Think broadly. What is the best overall solution?
- Green hat: Think creatively. What are some alternative ideas?
- Red hat: Look at the situation emotionally. What do your feelings tell you?
- White hat: Look at the situation objectively. What are the facts?
- Yellow hat: Use a positive perspective. Which elements of the solution will work?
2. Use Mind Maps and Flow Charts 📊
A mind map is a way to connect ideas and look for innovative answers to questions. Create a mind map by writing down a central topic or word. Next, link related terms or ideas around the central word. While similar to brainstorming, this technique allows for branching ideas and offers a very visual way of seeing how ideas are linked.
As you start to develop a new project, create a flow chart to track the project from start to finish. Look for various paths or sequences of events that might occur. A flow chart can help you visualize the final product, eliminate potential problems, and create unique solutions.
3. Look for Inspiration🦋
Never expect creativity to just happen. Look for new sources of inspiration that will give you fresh ideas and motivate you to generate unique answers to questions. Read a book, visit a museum, listen to your favorite music or engage in a lively debate with a friend.
Use whatever strategy or technique works best for you. Do you enjoy video games? Research indicates that playing video games can help increase your creativity.
4. Take some time off⛑
Working all the time will make you feel productive, but it won’t help improve creativity. Taking time off is a habit of successful people from Sheryl Sandberg to Richard Branson – and they suggest you do the same. Your mind needs time to process experiences, regenerate and make those connections you’re looking for.
5. Move your body(Do Exercise)💪
Writer Henry David Thoreau said, “The moment my legs begin to move my thoughts begin to flow.” He was on to something: Studies have found that exercise improves memory and creative thinking. Next time you feel stuck on how to increase creativity, get up and move!
6.Create an accepting and encouraging environment💅
You’ve probably heard the phrase, “There are no bad ideas,” but do you treat yourself or your employees as if this is true? Everyone’s ideas must be heard and given equal value and failure should be seen as opportunity. “You have to fail to be successful,” Tony says. Rather than punishing failure, celebrate the process. Change your self-talk to appreciate every idea that comes your way, creative or not.
7. Learn to pitch your ideas (in an elevator)📜
There is simple truth in the fact that Steve Jobs of Apple was great at exploring and explaining innovations based on existing products – laptops, cell phones, music players. He didn’t invent those products, but he made them better and he was great at explaining why his version was superior to other competing goods.
On many occasions I hear from my students, “But I had that idea first” or “I proposed something like that just recently and nobody listened to me.” In this situation I always highlight the bottom line – probably you did have a wonderful idea, but you didn’t express yourself clearly and excitingly enough to grab people’s attention, or help others to grasp the nature of your innovation or project.
There is an old saying, “If you cannot express your idea in three sentences – you don’t have an idea!” One of the most important innovation skills is the ability to present a very short and clear description of a new idea (two to three sentences – like shouting through the closing door of an elevator) and to make a short presentation (two to three minutes – what is called an “elevator pitch”). Like any other skill, the ability to articulate in this way can only come through much practice.
